Karamoja and the Wild East

Entebbe, Soroti, Moroto

Fly from Entebbe to Soroti, then drive on to Moroto in the heart of Karamoja, a region most first time visitors to Uganda never reach. The route passes Lake Kyoga, where the group stops for a boat cruise, watching for the shoebill stork and other wetland birdlife. The evening opens with a team meet and greet at the lodge in Moroto.

The next day is spent in a Karamojong manyatta for a community and cultural immersion: traditional homesteads, a beadwork demonstration, and a performance of local dance. In the afternoon, the group visits a nearby smallholding growing sorghum and vegetables, learning how farming works in this drier part of the country.

A game drive through Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve follows, looking out for roan antelope, ostrich, and other small wildlife typical of this semi-arid landscape. The trip closes with a wellness evening at the lodge, a quiet contrast to the day's dust and distance, before the drive back to Soroti and the flight to Entebbe.
